Behavior When Coram Point Loses Internet Connection

Learn what happens to cameras, live feeds, and AI processing when Coram Point goes offline, and find out which functionalities remain available.

Updated over a week ago

Overview

Coram Point stores video data locally and provides remote cloud access through the Coram web app. When Coram Point loses its internet connection, although local recording, logging, and processing still continue under most circumstances, some features become unavailable. Understanding how Coram Point behaves offline helps you maintain surveillance coverage, resume normal operations, and know what to expect once connectivity is restored.

Limitations to Functionality

When the internet goes out, all cameras display a warning in the Coram web app to indicate that Coram Point is offline. When Coram Point is offline, you cannot do the following:

  • Remotely view video feeds from any connected cameras the Coram web app.

  • Access historical footage or perform searches within the Coram web app.

  • Use Discover, Alerts, or other cloud-dependent features that require a live connection.

  • Start a new local streaming session using WebRTC.

Features that Retain Functionality without Internet

Despite losing internet, Coram point continues to do the following:

  • Record footage and log data from cameras that remain powered and locally connected. Video recording persists as long as the LAN path between Coram Point and each camera is intact.

  • Process events using AI, such as motion and object detection, and facial recognition. Coram Point stores these detections locally and later uploads them once the internet connection is restored.

Note: Any features that require cloud processing resume functionality automatically when Coram Point's internet connection is restored.

Local Network and Power Considerations

Coram Point must still have:

  • Power: If the device loses power, no video can be recorded or processed.

  • LAN Access to Cameras: If the LAN link to cameras is severed, for example is a cable is unplugged, or a PoE switch is turned off, Coram Point cannot capture footage from those cameras.

In these cases, no footage is recorded and AI detections are not performed or logged until power and LAN connectivity are restored.

Tip: If cameras remain offline or unavailable after reconnection, verify that they have power and check any network paths or PoE switches to confirm they are functioning correctly. If the issue persists, contact Coram AI support for assistance.
