Overview
License Plate Recognition (LPR) is a feature that enables your cameras to automatically detect and record license plate information from vehicles in real-time. This article provides a quick guide on how to enable LPR for your account and individual cameras. It also offers best practices for positioning your cameras to achieve optimal recognition accuracy. Additionally, you will learn how to access and search for detected license plates within the AI Analytics page, as well as how to designate specific license plates as Licence Plates of Interest and set up alerts for them.
Enabling LPR
Enabling LPR is a two-step process:
Enable LPR for your account: By default, LPR is disabled. You can enable for your account it from the Settings menu in the Coram web app. To learn more, refer to Settings: Controls.
Enable LPR on specific cameras: After enabling LPR for your account, you must enable the feature for each individual camera. You can manage camera settings from the Devices page. To learn more, refer to Changing Camera Settings.
Best Practices for Accurately Reading License Plates
For optimal LPR performance, we recommend running LPR on cameras that are positioned within 30 degrees horizontally and vertically of the angle of the licence plate, and between two and six meters off the ground.
Finding Detected License Plates
You can find license plates detected by your cameras in the AI Analytics page, under the License Plates tab. Each row shows readings of individual license plates, and includes the number of occurrences of each license plate.
To see all video clips for a particular license plate, click the image of the license plate.
You can also use the search bar to fin specific license plate numbers. The system can process partial matches, and returns the closest matching license plate.
License Plates of Interest
You can store a result as a license plate of interest by clicking on the result and then clicking Add to LP of Interest. Under the License Plates of Interest tab, you can see all previously stored plates.
You can also create alerts for when a Licence Plate of Interest is captured on your cameras. To learn more, refer to Creating a License Plate of Interest Alert.
