Multi-site Configurations with Coram Point

Learn about connecting and managing cameras across multiple locations with Coram Point.

Updated this week

💡 At a Glance

There are two primary configurations when using Coram across multiple sites: a single Coram Point with a VPN, and individual Coram Points at each site (without a VPN). Each approach has its own set of security considerations.

Key Takeaways

  • Single Coram Point with VPN
Simplifies administration by managing all cameras through one Coram Point. Remote cameras must be accessible via the VPN, and Coram Point must successfully ping each camera’s IP address.

  • Multiple Coram Points without VPN
Deploy a separate Coram Point at each location when sites have distinct local networks without VPN connections. All cameras can be managed within a single organization through Coram’s web and mobile apps.

  • Security Risks
Avoid exposing RTSP ports and cameras directly to the internet to mitigate potential security threats. To learn about secure multi-site configurations, contact Coram support.

Overview

Coram allows you to monitor and record camera feeds from various physical locations within a single organization in the Coram web and mobile apps. The method you choose depends on your network infrastructure and security requirements. This article contains recommended approaches for multi-site setups, along with important considerations about security.

Option 1: Single Coram Point with VPN

If your sites share a common VPN, you can typically use just one Coram Point to manage all cameras. Using a single appliance and a secure VPN significantly simplifies administration and eliminates the need for multiple Coram Points. When using a single Coram Point, ensure the following:

  • Every remote camera is on a network that is accessible to Coram Point through the VPN.

  • Coram Point can ping each camera’s IP address. If cameras respond, Coram Point can stream them.

  • The VPN is properly configured and maintained.

Note: Coram’s support team can help confirm whether each camera is reachable from Coram Point but does not provide or install VPN solutions.

Option 2: One Coram Point for Each Site with No VPN

When each site has its own local network and no VPN links them together, you must deploy a Coram Point at each location.

Even with multiple Coram Points across multiple location, you can still manage and monitor all cameras within a single organization. Each Coram Point handles local recording and AI processing for its respective cameras, and the web and mobile apps

Important: Opening RTSP ports to the internet to connect multiple sites through a single appliance poses security risks. Coram AI strongly discourages exposing cameras to the public internet.

Important Note on Camera Exposure

Some users choose to expose cameras and RTSP ports directly to the public internet, allowing a single Coram Point to serve multiple disconnected sites. This method is not secure and exposes cameras to potential threats. For guidance and information about secure solutions, contact Coram support.
