Coram Remote Unit (CRU-1)

Learn what the Coram Remote Unit (CRU-1) is, what it includes, how it integrates with the Coram platform, and full technical specifications.

🔎 At a Glance

The Coram Remote Unit (CRU-1) is a mobile surveillance unit that brings Coram's full AI platform to any location with plug-and-play wiring, no networking, and no permanent installation. It is not a standalone product — it is a form factor within the Coram platform, designed to work as part of the unified Coram security ecosystem.

The CRU-1 packages a Coram Point CP-I-1 NVR, a 5G LTE router, a PoE switch, integrated speakers and strobes, surge and lightning protection, and climate control into a single weatherproof enclosure. It supports up to five cameras (including one PTZ camera slot) and is IP56-rated for an operating temperature range of −40°C to 70°C.

This article covers what the CRU-1 is, what it includes, how it fits into the Coram platform, and its full technical specifications.

Overview

The CRU-1 is built for environments where traditional surveillance infrastructure is not available. Construction sites, parking lots, events, remote yards, laydown areas, and seasonal depots are common examples. You supply power; the CRU-1 supplies everything else — cameras, connectivity, analytics, and deterrence.

Once powered, the CRU-1 starts capturing video, analyzing activity, and sending alerts. Setup takes minutes: place the unit, connect power, and it appears in your Coram dashboard. No on-site IT support is required. Select configurations can also operate off-grid when paired with compatible power sources.

What's Included

The CRU-1 combines five core components into a single enclosure: an AI-capable NVR for on-device video analytics and recording, cellular connectivity so the unit can operate without existing network infrastructure, PoE power delivery for connected cameras, surge and lightning protection, and active climate control for extreme temperature environments.

The embedded Coram Point CP-I-1 NVR supports H.265/H.264 decoding, firearm alerts, face detection, vehicle detection, and intrusion detection, with 30 days of 24/7 recording. The 5G LTE router provides a cellular gateway with Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac, 867 Mbps dual-band). The PoE switch provides a 75 W total PoE budget through a Netgear switch. Each unit also includes integrated speakers and strobes that can be activated manually or automatically through AI detection workflows. Climate control uses a heater and fan to maintain operation across the full −40°C to 70°C range.

Alerts and Deterrence

The CRU-1 detects people, vehicles, and suspicious activity using on-device AI. When a detection event occurs, the unit sends instant alerts to your security team. Alerts from CRU-1 detections follow the same routing rules used by your fixed Coram installations.

Each unit's integrated speakers and strobes can be activated to discourage threats, either manually from the Coram dashboard or automatically as part of an AI detection workflow.

Platform Integration

CRU-1 units connect directly to your Coram dashboard, giving you live video, AI detections, and device health in one place. CRU camera streams appear like any other feed inside Coram VMS — there is no separate interface for mobile units. You can track connectivity, camera health, detections, and activity history from a single dashboard.

CRU-1 detections also activate the same EMS workflows used across your campuses and buildings. You can use a CRU-1 to monitor temporary gates and align detections with access events through Coram Access Control.
