Managing Camera Licenses and Coram Point Capacity

Learn about managing the number of cameras added to your organization, as well as license limits and hardware constraints of your Coram Point.

Updated over a week ago

💡 At a Glance

Manage camera licenses and Coram Point capacity to ensure optimal surveillance performance, and to avoid exceeding hardware or licensing limits. Deactivate unused cameras and strategically distribute camera loads across multiple Coram Points to maintain a seamless and efficient monitoring system.

⚡ Key Takeaways

  • Monitor License and Capacity Usage
Regularly review the Devices page to ensure only necessary cameras are active, and deactivate unused cameras to free up slots for new additions.

  • Distribute Cameras Across Coram Points
Balance high-resolution or multi-head cameras across different Coram Points to avoid overloading a single appliance and maintain system performance.

  • Optimize Camera Settings
Use recommended resolution and frame rate settings to balance image quality with resource usage.

  • Plan for Scalability
Anticipate future camera additions by understanding current capacity limits and consulting with Coram representatives to expand licenses or hardware.

Overview

When you sign up to Coram, you agree to a certain number of camera licenses, which determines how many cameras you can connect simultaneously to your organization. Each Coram Point also has a specific camera capacity, which can be impacted by cameras with notably high resolutions or high frame-rates. By understanding these license and hardware capacity considerations, you can optimize your camera deployment without compromising performance or incurring unexpected costs.

Tip: If your requirements change, contact your Coram representative to discuss adding licenses or hardware capacity.

Deactivating and Reactivating Cameras

If you want to add a new camera to your organization, but have reached either the hardware capacity limit for your Coram Point, or the camera license limit for your organization, you can deactivate another connected camera.

Note: Deactivating a camera stops its live video feed and any recording, but retains all historical data for that camera.

To deactivate a camera:

  1. Access the Coram web app and sign in to your account.

  2. From the main navigation menu, click Devices.

  3. From the list of cameras, locate the camera you want to deactivate.

  4. disable the corresponding Activate toggle switch.

To reactivate a camera:

  1. Return to the Devices page and locate the deactivated camera.

  2. Enable the corresponding Activate toggle switch.

Note: If your Coram Point is already at capacity (either due to license limitations or hardware constraints), you may not be able to re-enable the camera unless you free up another slot or expand your license.

Managing Cameras Across Coram Points

If you need to move a camera from one Coram Point to another, such as for redistributing camera load, contact Coram support. This ensures that cameras aren’t exceeding capacity limits or hardware constraints on any Coram Point, and prevents performance issues.

Note: If you reach capacity on a Coram Point, then disable a camera, add a new one, and subsequently want to re-enable the original camera, Coram support can help to assess the capacity of your Coram Point and the terms of your license agreement to determine if reactivation is possible.

Best Practices

Monitor License Usage

  • Occasionally review the Devices page to confirm that all connected cameras are still needed.

  • Deactivate or remove cameras that are no longer needed to avoid reaching the capacity limit for your Coram Point or license agreement.

Optimize Camera Settings

  • Use recommended settings to balance performance and image quality. To learn more, refer to Recommended Camera Specifications.

  • High resolutions or frame rates demand more resources, which limits the number of cameras you can attach without impacting performance.

Plan Camera Distribution Wisely

If you manage multiple Coram Points, distribute high-resolution or high-FPS cameras across different appliances to avoid overloading.
